Call center software questions and answers
Short answers to common call center software questions about Halo: phones, lines and numbers, the server and your data, buying and support.
Product
Do we need desk phones?
No. Agents answer and make calls in the browser, with answer, hold, mute, keypad and blind or attended transfer. Call audio is relayed through your Halo server, with a fallback over port 443 for office networks that block normal call traffic. Agents dial out within the rules your admin allows. Browser softphone
Is there a mobile app?
Not in v1. Agents use a browser. The softphone runs in the browser on the agent’s computer, with answer, hold, mute, keypad and transfer. Supervisors follow the floor on the wallboard, which can also open on a TV through a link that can be revoked.
Do you have WhatsApp or chat?
Not in v1. Halo v1 handles phone calls: voice menus, queues, callbacks, recordings, the wallboard and reports. Other items that are not in v1 include a campaign or predictive dialer, CRM integration, voicemail to email, and alerts by SMS or email.
Can our systems place automatic calls?
Yes. With the Callout API, your systems place automatic calls that play a recorded message, with per-key limits, retries, allowed hours, signed webhooks and duplicate protection. In v1 the calls play a recording only: callers cannot press keys, and the message has no dynamic content. Automatic calls and alerts
What happens when every agent is busy?
Callers wait in a queue and hear their place in line, every 60 seconds by default, with hold music in between. VIP callers go first. The queue can offer a callback, and after the maximum wait callers move to an overflow, which is voicemail by default. Callers who hang up and voicemails become callback tasks. Call queues
Can supervisors listen to live calls?
Yes. Supervisors can listen to a live call, whisper to the agent or barge in. They can also force an agent to pause or log out. Supervisor listen-in lines are free and do not use a seat. On the wallboard they see callers waiting, the longest wait and one card per agent. Live wallboard
Is Halo a call center service?
No. Halo is software for your own call center; we do not take calls for you. Your agents answer the calls, using a softphone in the browser. Halo gives supervisors the wallboard, queues, callbacks and reports. Skynet VISP installs Halo and supports your team.
Is Halo a contact center?
Halo is call center software. Its full product name is Halo Contact Center, but in v1 it handles phone calls only: voice menus, queues, callbacks, recordings, the wallboard and reports. WhatsApp and chat are not in v1. Callers reach your agents by phone, through your Ethio Telecom SIP trunk.
Lines and numbers
Does it work with Ethio Telecom?
Yes. Halo is built for Ethio Telecom SIP trunks: many registered line identities, inbound calls identified by IP, caller ID set to your trunk’s numbers, and a channel reservation so automatic calls never block agents. v1 supports one SIP trunk per install. The trunk reaches your server over a private link from Ethio Telecom; Skynet arranges and tests it during setup. Ethio Telecom SIP
Can callers hear Amharic?
Yes. Voice prompts are your own recordings, in Amharic or any language. Your admin uploads MP3, WAV, OGG or M4A files of up to 20 MB and 10 minutes each. The built-in queue sounds can be replaced too, so position and wait messages can also be in Amharic. Amharic voice menus
Does Halo know Ethiopian holidays?
Yes. Halo has an Ethiopian holiday calendar with holiday greetings, for days such as Genna and Timket. Dates that move each year are confirmed by your admin. There is also a one-switch emergency message for days when every caller needs to hear the same news first.
Can we move from Issabel?
Yes. Skynet moves you in stages: Halo is installed next to Issabel, automatic calls move first, then one number or queue, then the main line. Issabel stays ready to switch back until you confirm. Call history is not imported. Asterisk stays the call engine, with Halo’s own management, monitoring and reporting on top. Migrate from Issabel
Server and data
Where is our data stored?
On a server for your company alone, yours or one from Skynet. Calls, recordings and call history are kept on it, with encrypted nightly backups on a second server in Ethiopia. Telegram alerts show masked numbers only. Call history is kept in Halo’s own database, and v1 does not delete call records automatically. On-premise call center
What happens if the internet goes down?
Agents reach Halo over the network, so they need a working connection to the Halo server. The Ethio Telecom trunk reaches the server over its own private link. Where an office network blocks normal call traffic, the softphone’s audio can fall back over port 443.
What server does Halo need?
A starting server has 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD, running Debian 13. Skynet sizes larger teams. You can use your own server or one from Skynet, and setup covers the install and licence with backups.
Who can listen to recordings?
Only the roles you allow. Recordings can be played and downloaded only by those roles, and every play is logged. Agent calls are recorded by default as MP3, are searchable, and are kept for the number of days you set. Security and data
What happens if the licence server cannot be reached?
Halo keeps working normally for 30 days. Even with a licence problem, inbound and agent calls keep working. Settings, exports and new automatic calls lock until the licence is fixed, so your callers still get through while it is sorted out.
Buying and support
How is it priced?
Per seat per year, plus a one-time setup fee. A seat is a person with a softphone, and supervisor listen-in lines are free. The yearly licence includes all updates and Skynet support. Skynet prepares a quote for your team size. Pricing
How many agents can it handle?
Halo is built for teams of up to 100 agents. The starting server has 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD on Debian 13, and Skynet sizes the server for larger teams. Each agent uses one seat on the yearly licence, and supervisor listen-in lines are free.
Who installs and supports it?
Skynet VISP (Skynet IT Solution PLC) in Addis Ababa. Skynet installs Halo, connects and tests your Ethio Telecom SIP line, builds the first voice menu and trains your team in Addis Ababa. The yearly licence includes support Mon-Sat 08:00-18:00 by phone, Telegram and email, with remote fixes.
Do you speak Amharic?
Yes. Skynet’s sales and support team speaks English and Amharic. The Halo app’s screens are in English. Your callers hear voice menus in Amharic or any other language you record. Training is hands-on in Addis Ababa, and support runs Mon-Sat 08:00-18:00 by phone, Telegram and email.
How soon can we see a demo?
Book a demo through the form. Skynet calls you within one working day (Mon-Sat, except public holidays) to plan your demo. Tell us your team size and current phone system on the form, so the demo fits your call center. You can also call or WhatsApp +251 967 000 002. Book a demo
